MosDef, What is the condition of your front suspension? If you have lots of play, it is very possible that you would need the strut and the strut bearing (the bearing is known for wearing out and leading to play). As for the bump stop, unless you have been bottoming out your car for a long time, multiple times a day, I would say that this part is not needed. Now, if you are simply replacing the struts because you think the front end is getting a little soft and nose diving too much, then only a strut would be required.

I would say to remove the front wheel and see what you have. You will see a cone shaped piece on the shaft of the strut (near the top) and if that is mushroomed out, you need a new bump stop. If you open the hood, place a ratchet on the bolt at the top of the strut and then attempt to move the nut front to back and side to side and you see movement, then the strut bearing needs to be replaced (unless it is making aweful noises, then should be replaced since failure is likely to occur in the near future). If both of these check out good, then you only need the strut.

thanks Thermo, i will check. i can drive in a straight line with out holding ont to the steering, so i think i don't think i have any play. i hear a knocking sound especially when i drive through bumpy roads and i believe its coming from the passanger's side, both front and rear.
