Default Rattling Noise - Sounds like its coming from the front of the engine?

Hey guys.. I noticed a rattling at idle the other day. The car is running smooth, drives with plenty of power, but when its at an idle, i hear a rattle.. almost like something loose. I give it a little throttle, and it smooths out. There have been times where i wouldnt hear it at all. I had the car up on the lift looking for it, and couldnt find a thing. I put a stethascope to the motor. It all sounds good. Checked the a/c compressor, but that didnt seem to be it either. Havn't gotten around to checking the other pulleys, but figured I'd ask.. Maybe someone could give me a thought?

Does it do it in gear or out of gear?

First I would recommend changing the oil and filter with quality stuff. Some people use mobile1.

I was having a similar issue when I started the car while idling I would get and rattiling noise that would go away once I accelerated. By recommendations from users on here I changed the oil and filter. I used Amsoil oil and filter. After that the rattling has stopped.

Seems like some oils can cause this. If not I would check your harmonic balancer https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-rattle-12475/

The oil is fresh, however I only put in a fairly cheap semi synthetic. I drained and filled it when I bought it to run it for a few hundred miles just because I didnt know when the last oil change was and I wanted to clean it out with some fresh oil. It will be getting Mobil 1 as the rest of my cars do this week.
As i have only noiticed it when the car was parked and you need to be in front of the car to hear it, I don't know if it does it in gear.
And I want to put a new belt on it anyways, so I'll run it with no belt on it if it still makes the sound to check if its a pulley or not.

Thanks for the suggestions!

And Thankyou for that Engine rattle link. After reading that, the cat actually makes sense to me. Its got that metal sound to it, and while making the rattle, i had a stethascope all over the motor and trans and it sounded smooth as can be. I never thought to check the cat. I also have a bank 2 sensor 2 code.. maybe theyre related?
