Default Rear tires wearing bad on inside

I am new to Jags and this forum. My rear tires are wearing bad on the inside 2 inches or so. I have read alot about the rear lower control arm.

But, isn't there an adjustment for the camber via the Adjustment bolt ?

Thanks!!

its almost sure to be the rear lower (front) control arms....quite easy to replace and about $100 each...one for each side....one bolt at each end

So your saying the Rear Front Control Arm? Is that the piece that looks like a bone? Not the one that the spring sets on?

yes, the short arm (about 8-10")
to be sure, jack up the rear of the car and grip the wheel at 12 o/c and 6o/c and see if there is any in/out movement, i'll bet there will be. Had the same issue here, and there are many threads about it, search the xtype forum for "rear control arm"

The offending rubber mounts will be obviously worn when you wiggle it

So in the diagram above it would be number 13 not number 8?

JaguarOne, yes, piece number 13 in the above diagram. LIke was mentioned, 2 bolts and the piece comes out. You can verify this by taking the car out for a drive and when making a large sweeping curve (like something with a 25 MPH limit) and then tap the gas a little bit. If you feel the rear end of the car wanting to slide to the outside, that is the play in this part messing with the rear end of the car. What you are feeling is the rear tires moving slightly and the car taking a different angle on the curve.

After putting the new pieces on, make sure to get an alignment done as it will more than likely be out of alignment. You can't just get an alignment to fix the issue without replacing parts as you have play in the components and only getting a re-alignment will not fix the issue.

Yes, and I just found (... ;-), this repair is now covered under factory warranty (strange that it wasn't in the first place...). So for all of you that are still covered by new or Select coverage see your dealer for this repair.

Thanks guys. I almost ordered the wrong parts. I was going to order #8. The part that the spring sits on.

I jacked the car up crawled under it and had my son try and move the tire holding it at 6 and 12. I didn't see any noticable movement. I took it for an alignment and they of course called me and said they couldn't correct it.

So, still think it is the rear lower (front) control arms?

Also the one item fits boths side? No difference between left and Right?

Thanks for your help.

jaguarone, nope, it is the same component on both sides. Order two and call it good. I think you will find that the one joint (inside mount) is going to have some play in it and it is causing the rear tires to point towards the center of the front bumper.

So I replaced the Lateral Arms, or lower rear front control arms. I was a PITA because one of the bolts had siezed itself to the metal sleeve in the bushing. That was a new on for me. I had to cut it.

If that wouldn't have happened, I would have probably been done in way under an hour.

Here are the Alignment spec prior to replacing the arms and after. The new arms did correct the rear camber a degre on each side. Almost within specs. I believe (hope) between the toe adjustment and the new arms my tire wear should improve.

Front Caster Left Initial 2.54 Spec 1.50 to 3.00 Final 1.80
Right Initial 2.32 Spec 1.50 to 3.00 Final 1.53

Camber Left Initial -2.15 Spec -1.29 to 0.21 Final -1.67
Right Initial -1.89 Spec -1.29 to 0.21 Final -1.81

Toe Left Initial 0.34 Spec -0.15 to 0.05 Final -0.05
Right Initial 0.14 Spec -0.15 to 0.05 Final -0.03
. Total Initial 0.48 Spec -0.30 to 0.10 Final -0.08

Rear Camber Left Initial -2.46 Spec -1.45 to 0.05 Final -1.74
Right Initial -2.22 Spec -1.45 to 0.05 Final -1.96

Toe Left Initial -0.79 Spec -0.02 to 0.26 Final 0.11
Right Initial -0.11 Spec -0.02 to 0.26 Final 0.14
Total Initial -0.90 Spec 0.05 to 0.45 Final 0.25
Trust Angle Initial -0.34 Spec -0.14 to 0.14 Final -0.02

Has anyone experimented with replacing the inner mounting bolt of the Upper Arm with a cam bolt of the right size? Looking at the JTIS schematics, it seems so perfect and easy..
I trust the advice that the lower arms are the culprit, but mine show virtually no bushing wear and camber is perfect on opposite side.
Also, I had a low impact collision on that wheel. So it could be a bent anything back there. Paying for multiple opinions and parts is out-of-the-question..
