red light on dash
A red light on the right side of the speedo dial came on when I was only doing about 25mph. Restarting the engine several times hasn't extinguished it. Is it safe to drive to my mechanic?
I've only had the car a month or so and already had to have an air flow meter fitted (£250) Worried about the car's reliability. It's a 2003 X type 2.5 litre with 48K on the clock.
Would you believe it? A member suggested it might be because the boot/trunk was not shut properly. I opened it and closed it firmly and the light went out. THANK YOU - WHOEVER YOU ARE!

Glad you got it sorted.
I'm thinking if it was the boot/trunk closure then the red light would have a symbol of the issue or a written warning would also come up on the display.

Greetings Mike,
I'm feeling that the red warning light you refer to is the "door open or ajar" light and not the red "critical fault" mil. Correct?
If so, I suggest you grab your Owner's Handbook (here on Stickies or Gus' JagRepair.com) and work out what warning lights you have in your display and what they mean. You are not the first to become alarmed (sorry, bad pun) when an unfamiliar warning catches you on a new-to-you car. It pays to be cautious and delighted you sought help here, and it also pays to have a flexible sense of humour. Have you found the Jaguar warning "Call Your Bank Manager Urgently!" LOL!
Cheers and best wishes,
