replacement for missing fuel filler flap release cable and latch from estate

I just found out that the fuel filler flap release cable and latch is missing. I have a 3L sport saloon. Can I use a cable and latch from an estate x type?

The answer is "possibly" or even "probably" .....but, I can't figure out how a cable and latch could go missing - can you enlighten us?

sorry it wasnot missing after all. the cable was under the boot lining.
