Replacing drop links on rear ARB help
Purchased an X-type 2008 saloon recently, took it in to my trusted local garage for a quick check to see if I got a lemon or a peach !
Only thing they found was rubber on top and bottom of both drop links on the rear ARB are totally gone and thus would explain why I'm getting such a rattle from the back
Wondered if anyone could offer any advice on if a non mechanically minded guy such as myself can whip the old ones off and put the new ones on with out too much difficulty ?
Have done a search but cant find anything that gives me a clue how difficult it might be. looking at them does seem like just bolt top and bottom, if anyone could offer a how to be very appreciative.
Questions that spring to mind are: is it under tension, do I need to hold it in place before I remove the old one and if the car needs to be off it's wheels to do it.
Many Thanks

j2000, replacing the arms in the rear of the car are easy to do (both the top arm and the front/lower arm). Like you said, 2 bolts and the arm will slide out. There is no real load on the arm if you lift the rear tires off of the ground and let them hang (need both wheels off the ground else you are going to be fighting the rear sway bar and it can make things more difficult). You may find that you will need to muscle the spindle around a little bit to get things lined up again, but that is not too bad. You may want to check out: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...rol-arm-88530/. This is a little "how-to" for replacing the arm in question. Now, I used an aftermarket arm that is adjustable, but the same process can be used in your case.
