fzx, if you have pulled the cables off of the battery and ten reconnected them and still have the light, then you have not fixed the problem. The car is still seeing the problem. The light will remain on till the computer thinks the problem is not there. What code(s) are you getting? That may help us come to a solution for you.
I would recommend that if you have an android based phone, to do some looking into an "ELM 327" unit. They make them in a bluetooth version and for the $15 and a free app, it is really hard to beat what it offers to you.
Let me know the codes and we can get you back up and running without the CEL being on.

Liquid, yes, I use the Torque program. If I get my new XJL, then I am going to get the new ELM unit to match up to the new system and then spend the extra $5 to register the program. That way I can start doing some dyno runs. I have a few "ideas" in my head for what I want to do. It will be curious to see what sort of changes I can make happen. He he he he.

fzx, for what that code reader does that you are looking at, you would be much better off getting a cheap used android phone (no need to get cell service for it, you just want it for the bluetooth ability unless you have a laptop with bluetooth capability) and the ELM box. You will have a lot more features available to you for about the the same price. The ELM unit will give you real time data of the engine which if you are a motor head, can be very useful in figuring out what is truely wrong.
