Default Reverse light switch

Hi all, I have had my x type for a week and I lost my reverse sensors and reverse lights, I changed the bulbs and fuses which had no effect and therefore bought a new switch. I had to disconnect the battery and replaced the switch and everything was back and fully working. On my first journey out the engine management light came on, car is driving fine, is this as a result of what I have done or a case of getting the codes read?

chewy, there are no codes that are related to the reverse lights. So, unless you pulled apart a plug accidentally, I am not sure what you may have done. So, get the codes read and hopefully it will give you a starting point. it is possible that you may have hit say the MAF sensor plug and that is now giving you grief. Not a lot of sensors in the area of the reverse switch.

Thans thermo, i will get the codes read, when i was test driving the car it was a bit lumpy and the garage repaired it as a wire to the egr valve was shorting, hoping its not related to that.
