Default 2001 2.5 Manual X-type Reverse light switch

Hi there,

I am hoping to get some time to get some odd jobs done on the Jag this weekend.. and something on my list is very intermittent reversing lights - which I am hazarding is due to a switch somewhere failing. Can anyone tell me where it is and how easy it is to get to?

Many many thanks in advance..

(just noted I put 2001 in heading .. it *is* an 2002 model :-)) doh! :-)

Have the same issue (I guess) for 2 years now . Occasionally (very seldom) they work when I put in reverse, but 98% not. I tried to figure out where the switch is, but could not.

Pls let us know if you find anything.

Cheers

Thx!

Does anyone know how to change that thing? From underneath the car or from the inside?

Nardo, based on the assumption that the picture illustrates how the tranny is sitting in the car, you would be best served by opening the hood, pulling the battery out of the way and undoing the bolts holding the switch to the top of the tranny unless the switch is just held in place with a single bolt through the center. Can not quite tell based on the picture.

Yes, thank you Thermo, that's the way to get to the switch, but is not necessary to undoing the bolts, just only the switch using spanner number 22

Replaced mine the other day, sits on top of the gearbox. Standing in front of the car, look just behind the battery and you'll see it sitting vertically. You'll need a 22mm deep socket and a long extension bar. Don't lose the o-ring when you fit the new one. Takes about 2 minutes to change.

Replaced mine a couple of days ago. As said earlier - a 2 min job.

Got the part from Hampton Automotive for $12, as Gaudin cancelled my order because they were not able to get the part.
