Default Review mirror wires

Anyone know what color wire goes in which slot? The plug for the auto headlights, etc. The 3 wires on the right all are black with like an orange strips and look all the same

louvit, here is the info that you are after. You don't state what year car you have so the wiring diagram that I have is for a 2004.25 or newer vehicle.

Pin 1: Black with a red stripe
Pin 2: Black
Pin 3: Black with a pink stripe
Pin 4: Black with an orange stripe
Pin 5: Black with a green stripe

With this information, if you look at the first picture that you have in your thumbnails, , the left side of the picture is pin 1 (the wire with the insulation pulled back about 1/2" or so) and the right side would be pin 5 (black wire with the green stripe). You can then count across as the pins are in order.

I think I have the plug as good as I can get it, should I just put the wires in the holes and drop solder in there?

louvit, I will need to get home to confirm the wiring (should be the same, but not 100% sure). I am currently "trapped" at work for 48 hours during this big snow storm hitting the mid-atlantic area (guess people want power to their house). So, I don't have access to the diagrams to confirm.

As for getting things "back to 100%", I would work on getting those pins out of the socket (should be little metal "slivers" holding it in place that a jeweler's screw driver will collapse and allow you to push the pin out the back of the plug, ie, the side the wires go in). From there, you can buy just about any other plug that would be similar to that plug and use the pins out of that. This is going to make your life a whole lot easier and you should be able to pick up a plug for just a few bucks. From there, you can solder the wires to the new pins and then slide them in to the old socket.

louvit, if you go to NAPA (they seem to have the largest selection of electrical plugs), you can find a generic plug with that style of metal clip. Do not worry about the shape of the plastic connector as you are going to throw that away. Just make sure that the connector has atleast 5 of those clips in it. From there you should be golden.

Let me get home so I can look at my diagrams and I will see what I can do for you about the mileage calculator. I am stuck at work. I'm on hour 36 of work. Hoping I get to go home in 12 hours. BUt, this blizzard is making that all questionable.

I honestly think I can get the wires back in the original clips and put clips back in plug. It's not like that plug get's moved around alot. I will crimp wires in and then a light coat of solder. Am I wrong in thinking I can repair this one?

louvit, no, you can do it that way. It is just easier to use new clips than it is to try and re-use the old ones. Also, if the plug has gotten warm, then the clips may have some corrosion on the connector which can lead to issues. Starting with new stuff just helps to minimize any chance of re-introducing a problem.

louvit, that should work. Those clips look nice and silvery which is what I mainly worry about. Stick them back in and see what you end up with.

yea the clips are fine and the wires went in easy and I twisted them then crimped them into place, now I have to strip the ends of the short wires coming from the headliner in the car so I can splice them back on. That may be a pita because it's hard to work with short wires. No room for error...lol

louvit, if you need to extend them, let me know. I have to extend wires at work periodically and can give you a few helpful hints on how to do it and not have issues in the future.

I was just going to splice them from where I cut them and use heat shrink connectors

that works. I would say to make sure you solder the wires together. This will guarantee a long lasting connection. Crimp tubes work in a stationary environment, but the vibrations of a car can sometimes lead to issues in the future.

I broke the last tail of the clip. I shoved the wire in and will solder it, it was the top tail of the clip so I think it'll work. Did you double check the wire locations in an 02
