Default Rims

I am thinking about buying some rims and i was wondering what size would be the best fit for my x-type. I currently have the stock 17's but I am not sure if 20's would be too big. Any advice on this?

chukris, from listening to the whoas of fellow members, you are going to find that running 20's is going to be a touch and go situation that more than likely is going to result in significant rubbing unless you are planning to have other work done (ie, rolling fenders, possibly tieing the fender liner back and out of the way, etc). The big thing will be getting the correct spacing for the rims (may be referred to as offset or may be referred to as backspacing, same thing, just a different reference point). The person that knows the most about this is a member that goes by the name of EXEXPAT. He has pushed what these cars will take to the limit and beyond.

My staggered 20s with 235/30/20 all seasons ride pretty good. The Porsche ones with 225/30/20 Falkens are a bit harsh, but those have much harder sidewalls.

I'll sell the staggered set for $850 shipped to continental US and they have about 75-80% tread life left. They are in near perfect condition with no curb marks or paint chips.

20x9.5 and 20x8.5 Modular ET40 Carlsson replicas in 5x108 with 235/30/20 Achilles tires. As cheap as the tires were, I would still recommend them over the Falkens.

check the pic in my sig... 2002 jag x-type sport with 20x8.5" rim on 225/30/20 tires, no rubbing and no other modifications.
dont waste your time with small rims...btw ...that my girls car...she loves how it drives, but she swears at every pothole even on stock rims,im thinking about putting softer monroe shocks in...but its not because of the 20s.

hi Exexpat, I am new to the forum and I am about to buy a set of alloys for my Jag X Typr 2.0 D . Year 2003 . I wanted to put 20" alloys on it , but was unsure if they would fit/clear the wheel arches and brakes . I noticed that you have a beautiful 20 spoke set on your Jag . . . Please could I ask you for the details of these and if it would be possible to buy a set of these and would I need to make any other alterations to the arches/brakes , or would a set of 19" alloys be more suitable for the car without having to make any further alterations ? I have seen a lovely set of 20" alloys with a bolt pattern 5x120 . . .will these fit ? Thankyou in advance for your reply . From Paul .

Those were Modular 20" wheels and the company who imported them is out of business. Your best bet is 19 inch Coventry Whitley 5x108 with ET42 offset. They look quite similar and are available.

Default Alloy Wheels Update

hi, can you recommend a company that will ship/deliver to England as I am having difficulty sourcing the wheels here . My top choices for alloys are :
(1) TSW Silverstone 19" 19x8.0
(2) Coventry Whitley Hypersilver 19" 19x8.5 et42 5x108
(3) Zito Belair 19" (http://www.wheelbasealloys.com/19_In...y_Wheels_1654#)
(4) 20" 5x120 alloy (cgi.ebay.co.uk/20-BMW-3-series-saloon-05-E90-alloy-wheels-5x120-/400211385494?)
(5) AEZ Lascar 19" 5x108 (Alloy Wheels (Alloys) - Rimstyle.com - Alloy Wheel and Tyre Specialists for Cars, Vans, 4x4's)

My top choices (1) and (2) seem to be non existant in the UK . I have e-mailed a few stores in th US to see if they will deliver to the UK . . . but I am waiting for replys from them . Are you looking for car rims, custom wheels, performance tires, chrome wheels or black rims? WheelsNext.com is the solution! Wheels Rims and Tires. Custom Chrome Wheels 20 22 Inch Rims ????? Call Us Now 1-888-637-3764 To order your Custom Wheels | Auto Rims | Mirror Wheels | Kasino Wheels | Bigg Wheels | Big Wheels | Custom wheels | Chrome rims | Wheels and tires | Rims and tires | Chrome wheels | Cheap rims | Custo

(3) Zito Belair . . . would look good but I was unsure if this was a reputable brand . . . and of a good quality? and the same applies for (4) which also had the wrong bolt pattern 5x120 . I contacted your guy to machine a new 5x120 bolt pattern , which he said he could do , but would be very tight . It did not seem a good idea to go down this route at this stage for me , as I have no intention of adjusting the shocks and other modifications as yet .

(5) . . . these fit straight on . . .and are well priced .

I would appreciate any thoughts you may have on the above .

Thankyou cheers

From Paul .

I was thinking about looking into some new rims for my 2003 x type. I don't want any clearance issues. 18s wouldn't be a problem, would they?

18" wouldn't be any problems at all, my X-type has 19" wheels with 225/35 tires ride perfect!

I have 19" Chrome wheels with 225's and I love it, looks sharp and still a lot of room to lower it I'd recommend the 19" even though 20" looks nice, You won't be disappointed with 19. Good luck!
