Rough idle at startup
Check underneath the plastic in your engine bay...remove the 4 screws pop it off (after removing the oil cap) and you should see a hose running front to back that may have a crack in it...this was my problem but it didn't trigger any lights for a couple of months.

Also check the IMT seals to the left (in the pic) rear of intake manifold.
Also the grey plastic check valve from the brake booster to the intake manifold. All very common sources of vacuum leaks and rough running.

Most likely the aforementioned hose, especially if it's never been replaced. Mine had a nice 5" slice in it, clean as a razor blade. The replacement from Jaguar is much thicker, and is ribbed (for her pleasure). heh.
Thats precisley why we just go to the parts dept. and ask for 2 imt seals and a ***** hose.

There is also a few TSBs about rough idle and some misfire codes on early VIN X Types, some require a software upgrade, if you have access to a scan tool check your Long Term Fuel Trims, if above 7-8% then I might be looking for anair leak or vacuum leak,
would you(fjt) if possible with aquills picture, draw an arrow to the imt seals and the other vac hose to check? i'm kinda inclined but have no idea where these hoses are. thaks, Bill
Yup those are the imt valves. The other hose runs from the brake booster to the intake manifold. It has a big round grey check valve in the middle of it. It is about 8 inches long, (the hose that is).

does IMT stand for Intake Manifold Tuning?
FJT, what part exactly goes on the brake booset vacuum hose? just the check valve?
do you replace the hose with the check, or do you just put a new check valve?
what symptoms come from the booster vacuum line problems? just engine problems? or does it give brake problems too?

we replace the complete brake booster pipe, valve is part of the pipe
i have seen independants use heat shrink around the check valve
no brakes and also a brake pressure transducer fault can occur as well

Like he said. Beforecthe brake problems, you would normally feel rough running. You can normally hear the vacuum leak also.
The brake problem would first be evidenced by hard pedal due to lack of vacuum assist.

IMT is Induction Manifold Tuning. They are basically just a butterfly valve that allows air to flow at a different rate based on engine load. Full throttle, wide open valves. Personally I have disconnected them electrically and saw no difference in the way the car ran.
Sorry for the late reply Bo.

Do you guys know if this is BAD?: when i opened my Intake Air Control Valves, i saw some oil inside. Dodnt know if that is a good thing or not.
My car is also running rough on cold weather start and i can hear weasling noice when driving in the begining. Also a stiff brake pedal for the first minute after start.
Will check brake booset vacuum hose tomorow.
