Default sat nav

Hi

I have recently purchased a 2007 x type 2.2 diesel SE with sat nav. Is it just me or is the sat nav not what one would would expect from a car of this class. My old Garmin sat nav is much clearer, has speed camera alerts. One can change route whilst travelling, it has lane guidance and I just find it easier to use. I did not have to read the manual to operate it. The Jag sat nav reminds me of the old microsoft route finder as the maps are quite crude for something which costs over £150 for an update as opposed to £40 for my Garmin. I know you can get an update for £34 online. Apart from this my car is a joy to own except for the screenwashers which only work when they feel like it, a strange judder on the front brakes(Goes away if you dip the clutch) and a very haphazard feel to the ABS and traction control even though no warning lights are on.

regards Steve

The same satnav unit was available to all X-Types (and some S-Types and some XJs), even in a 2009 model the unit comes from 2001. Considering that it's roughly as old as Windows XP, a capacitive touch screen and the usability as a whole is actually pretty good. Obviously, it cannot compare to any later Garmin/TomTom/such. The maps are just too ugly and lack any detail.

As few of us are truly potential customers for the updates anyway (poor value since you could have a new high-end TomTom for less), you can do as I and others did.
