Default Shift clicking sound

Guys,
You know when you hit the break in parking the car release the lock in the shift and then you can shift to reverse or drive, there is a clicking sound which is OK since I have heard it on other cars. Now if you are at a red light on drive (D)I can hear the clicking sound, itdoesnt happen all the time. it clicks once or twice whenat a red light. Not sure what that is, anyone has any idea?

Inspect the rear brakes real well..the cable for the parking brake maybe transmitting the sound to the shifter area..

Carlton, I thinks that's the out of park solenoid. When your foot is on the break pedal it allows you to move the shift lever out of park. Mine did the same thing. Somehow the solenoid does not know you made it to drive, and clicks every time you let off the break.

You need a new j gate. around 350 from the dealer and a lot less from jag_genius. Send him a pm.

You will have to take out the center console. there is a steel pin you pull and slide the cable sideways then pop off the cable. (pin is located on some blue and red plastic pieces on the cable) the new j gate has a slight adjustment but you may need to adjust the cable at the bottom of the tranny behind a plate.

Solidx you may have the same problem. I know carltons description is the same as mine was.

I think I'll save myself 3 C notes and live with the sound. Its not too annoying and I am used to it now. If anyone asks what it is, I will just politely tell them to "shut it"
