Default sounds like a sqweeky bed???

I was driving my x-type the other day and noticed a sweeky sound coming from the rear of the car. I got out of the car and when I push down on the back of the car you can hear a sweeky sound from both rear wheels. It sounds like from the suspenion. I thought mabey a bad shock but, from both sides at the same time? Has anyone heard of this or knows what it may be?

I think it maybe some squeaks coming form some of the suspension bushings, etc...are you in a real salty climate right now?..Maybe a good undercarriage wash may help..I'm just guessing it's nothing serious.

i am in a salty area. I got the car washed and it did not help. I will take it to a better wash tomorrow. is this a common thing to have happen? Before this sound came about I did hear a small "chip" when driving. So think they are related?

If you have an X-type and it is making that noise, first thing I would do is look at the nylon bushing on the rear hub carrier where the parking brake cables go through. Put some grease on either side of the cable and pull it back and forth through the bushing so it is lubricated. Then see if the noise is gone.
That squeek is very common.

that squeek usually is when driving.. if the noise is a loud squeek then it cud be the lower control arm bushings in the rear .. get very noisy.. small tubular 8 inch black piece.

i got the under body washed real good. it still makes the sweek. I have noticed in the past a thump sound after hitting a bump. It is just a sound, you don't feel it.. just hear it. It almost sounds like there is something in the trunk thumping. I cleared out the trunk, tire and all yet the sound was still there and is still there. I wonder if that has something to due with the sweek I now have. Any thoughts?

Like Genius said, the thump could be the sway bar bushings. Only takes 5 minutes to change them.
The squeek however I am convinced may be the parking brake cables. There is a tsb for that.
I have also seen the rear shocks thump when they go bad.

My shocks have the same problem vegas. Both sides squeak, except when its cold out. My rear suspension has made noises at times for a while...

How much for the fix? Parts are 120 per shock from the dealer...

Jvegas,

and are the only replacing one shock for $200? For both i think it is a good price!!! i hope my squeeking is the same issue as yours (mine only when its warm and over sleeping policemen or big bumps).

no thats just for one. the shock cost over $100 each. that would mean free labor if i had them both done for $200.

Mine makes that DAMN squeaking sound too! Its not the shocks, or the doors its just the shitty build materials. During the summer the car squeaks during the winter its all quiet. I think the plastics expand and contract varying on temp and this causes them to loose integrity and squeak.

I had an older (98) camaro ss that is KNOWN for its squeaks and rattles and that thing road like a tank compared the the jag. On occasion the trunk hatch in my camaro would squeak. In the jag if i hit an ant hill my car chirps. Like i said it only does this when its warm like the summer and not in the winter. If it was the shocks I would think that it would continue regardless. If its the plastics on the interior of the car or other body panels that are more likely to be effected by the degrees in varying temps then it would explain why it squeaks rattles and rolls during the summer and not during the winter.
