Steering Shaking when Braking

Steering Shaking when Braking
Did a road trip this weekend & noticed a mild shaking on the steering wheel when braking from speed between 30 to 40 mph. But goes away beyond that speed.
From my last wheel alignment, they mentioned some play on rear wheels & need new bearings. Then last week, I just have the tires replaced with new tires.
I try to mimic it in our other vehicle & there's no shaking. Any ideas. Thanks.

My first thought was warped rotors. I have it something terrible in my Excursion. I suggest staying away from the ebay rotors...I'm not impressed with mine. Pay a little more for some lifetime warranty rotors from the local parts store and get a better product. I just won't have the slots or drilling.

OTOH, Brutal's method for the same problem is to stand on it a few times.

Im having the same problem, I went with the ebc slotted and dimpled rotors and yellowstuff pads and from day one I get the wheel shaking under braking...could i have gotten bad rotors or could they be possibly installed incorrectly....also i get what i can best describe as a swooshing sound when i brake

jagkid, the whooshing sound that you hear is a by-product of the slotted rotors. Some find that if you brake a little harder, the noise will go away or diminish and others find that braking a little lighter makes the noise go away. Play a little bit.
As for the shaking when you brake, it is very possible you got a warped rotor straight out of the box. Also, it is very important to me to make sure you torque the lug nuts to the same torque else you can induce uneven stresses in the rotors, leading to them warping during the first few stops (especially true if your first few stops are very hard stops, putting lots of heat into the rotors). The fix, you will have to determine first if it is front or rear that is shaking (if the steering wheel shakes when you brake, one of the front ones is warped, if you apply the e-brake to slow the car down and you feel the shake, then the rears are warped). Then you will have to turn the rotors in question.
