Default Steering Wheel Cover - help re-attaching

2005 X-type. I noticed the steering wheel cover is not connected on the back side (over and above the top of the steering wheel cover). Wouldn't surprise me if the previous owner of the car had the air bag go off and never had the steering wheel cover re-attached correctly.

I looked behind the cover and can't see how the top is supposed to re-attach. Anyone know?

So how is the cover held on anyway? Mine is firmly attached but the corners on mine are curling up, especially the two lowers, and I was wondering if they could be bent back down. Is this even possible or or is this it?
Thanks

I have the same issue with my 2002 X-type. The dealer wants nearly $1000 to replace the cover so that's not even close to an option. Let us know if you find a solution.

Smile Wheel Cover

On my 03 the cover for the steering wheel fits terribly. Looks like hell. I went to the dealer and they wanted $800 to replace it. As someone wrote it looks as the air bag was taken off, but my car did not have an airbag removal or deployment, it just poor workmanship.

I think it must be an issue with sun damage, mine seems fine but I can feel the top far corners cup up a bit. I mean I know it might have an issue with how it works but a bit of 2 sided tape in the corners?

I know I sound like I'm selling 3M these days, but some High Strength 90 spray glue (applied with a brush and some heat) on the base and cover should hold it down.

I bought some of the #80 when I did the hood insulation, that is some seriously sticky stuff. Couldn't buy it in Canada, probably harmed a fish during the manufacturing process.

Hi. I have a 53 plate x type and the steering wheel cover looks and feels as though it does not fit. I can get my fingers underneath. Is this how its supposed to be?

Welcome to the forum Bluemoongirl,

All the earlier posts in this thread suggest that's the way it is although everyone agrees it certainly shouldn't be.

If you think your X-Type wheel is worse than those described here, post a pic for further advice.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST section and post something about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. What colour is your steering wheel? See the 1990-2009 list here for reference if necessary.

If yours is a colour that wasn't dropped when they updated the steering wheel, you might consider replacing it with the later style steering wheel that has no "curling problem" with the cover. Some discussion here.

Your steering wheel cover is coming apart the glue that is used to bind it to the frame has deteriorated. Your going to need a new wheel one of these days.
