STEERING WHEEL IS SHAKING
My steering wheel is shaking at 60-70 mph. It seemed to have started after the front pads and rotors were replaced. I have had the tires balanced and rechecked by three different mechanics. The shaking does not occur when braking. One mechanic discovered "180 degree wear" on a tire and replaced it. That didn't help. Another said the right inner tie rod had a little play but couldn't say that was causing the problem. Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this.

RE: STEERING WHEEL IS SHAKING
Thanks for the answers everyone.I think I'll take it back to have the rotors checked (again). They were first done in august(along with the drive shaft). They were replaced in november after I had the 70000 mile service. I picked up the car and the shaking had started.
tanboi09us, there was one comment in your thread that i noticed. One of the guys who looked at my car said one tire was bigger than the others. What should I look at to verify this? The labeling seems to be the same. The back tires have the same labels as each other and the front tires have the same labels as each other.

RE: STEERING WHEEL IS SHAKING
if they are all 205/55/r16 u will be fine, for my case i had three tires with r16 and one with r17.
So the main things you should get it checked out before getting into detailed checkups are:
1. tires: make sure they are in good condition and it is not the source of the problem
2. rims: your rims are not bent
hope this helps

RE: STEERING WHEEL IS SHAKING
i have a bent rim and the car shakes just a little around 60. once i hit 70 it feels fine. (If anyone has any 16 or 17 inch oem rims in good shape let me know. come spring time i want to replace them.) can you tell if it is the front or back the the shake is coming from? do you feel it in the arm rest? maybe drive shaft?

RE: STEERING WHEEL IS SHAKING
Thanks again everyone for all the info. I took the front tires off yesterday to see if there was anything obvious that I (someone who has never worked on cars) could see. I did find the right inner(i think) tie rod is loose. Do you guys think that could be the problem or maybe it has been caused by the real problem. Also, can the sway bar bushings be checked out or do they just get replaced to see if that was the problem. Thanks again.
