Default Strange.... 2 drain plugs on oil pan???

Bought an 05vxtype with transfer case already out... took out oil pan to replace gasket... saw only one drain plug which I unscrewed and the oil drained out... went to put back the oil pan and noticed another screw hole next to the one I took out... what hole is this? Why didn' t the oil come out if this hole before i unscrewed the first one? Help?

JUlian, from the sounds of things, you got a "mechanics special". Sounds like the one plug was siezed and the person drilled a new hole to put in a new drain plug. To the best of my knowledge, all X-Types only came with a single plug to drain the motor oil from.

Juian, if you could, take a picture of the two drain plugs. I can tell by the picture what most likely happened. Granted, I bet if you put a wrench on the one that you didn't remove, it will be in there pretty good.

That additional tapped hole is a blind one - it stops short of going right through. It's where the transfer box air cooling scoop is secured. It doesn't sound as though a previous owner bothered to replace it after an oil change!

@Astro, brilliant! Yup, that sounds right, mine is missing now after hitting an "iceberg" on the freeway.
