Default Sudden complete failure and NO DTCs????

I'm searching and haven't come across this one. '02 X-Type 3.0.

Today I pulled on to the freeway and was almost up to speed when the MIL illuminated, Kitty bucked and I'm sure the message center read "DSC System Fault" before she QUIT.

Coasted over, restarted and ran without a problem back to work. Went to go home and as I pulled out of the parking lot, same thing. Restarted, got home and hooked her up to the OBDII scanner and all I'm getting is P1000 meaning a full drive cycle hasn't been completed since the last memory clear.

Could the info center maybe have read "DTC System Fault"? Do I have a module/computer/communication problem? Happening once I can get over but twice in a few hours is concerning.

To add insult to injury, the reason I had to leave work was to go lay down $1700to retrieve my daughters Ford Focus that had crapped out on her this past weekend.

Any quick help would be most appreciated.

Not much to go on here.

However, just yesterday, a friend's alternator crapped out on him. (Different make and model.) Apparently, he never saw any "battery" light on the instrument panel - then again, he's one of those who wouldn't notice such things - and described the symptoms as "totally dead... no clicks... no nothing." My first thought was a loose/disconnected battery cable, which proved to be not so far off when the shop told him he needed a new alternator.

It's a shot in the dark, but you might want to check your battery cables and make sure they're on tight. That's one of dozens of possible causes of stalling without any trouble codes, and is consistent with the lack of "driving cycles since last memory clear."

OMFG how catastrophic could this be? Funny you should mention the battery connections. I had already thought of that but went back for a second look past just the post connections. Sure enough the cable that runs from the positive side post to the fuse/relay box was making contact with a bolt on it's way. I found out from the flash, zap and FIRE! Now I have nothing. Did I just fry all the relays, etc?

HELP!

Everyone must be sleeping...

Catastrophe averted! Undid all cables, temporarily fixed the exposed one, reconnected and voila. All systems go.

Please check your cables. This particular one is routed low and right across the head of a bolt. Must have just worn through the insulation.

Not sleeping here. East coast boy (me) is on the left coast at the moment.

Glad it was so easy to fix. Free is always good, too.

I'll be sure to inspect that cable when I get home.
