Sunroof switch not working properly
The fix offer worked, but on my car (2002 x-type sport model) not quite as described. After turning the ignition to on I tried the recommended 20 second hold with no luck. To make it work I had to hold the forward button (closest to the windshield) until the sun roof cycled through all positions and stopped on its own. I continued holding for 20 seconds and then released and pressed any button. It works like new, thanks for getting me started in the right direction.
My sunroof (X-Type Sport 2002 3.0 AWD) went haywire when I turned off the ignition while the roof was doing an auto close. The back button then stopped working altogether and on the forward button the roof went through a whole open/close/up/down cycle without stopping. On searching the forum I found this solution thread and you know the fix suggested worked first time and the roof is back to normal function. Thaaaankyoooou so much .. 😁😁😁😁😁 .. !!!
Picture sitting in the car with the sunroof closed. You push button forward to tilt the sunroof. Press and hold it this way for 20 seconds. Then release and immediately push and hold again the same way. Keep holding as the sunroof first will tilt on first push, then second push it will close, tilt, close, slide open, slide closed. At this point it is programmed. Sorry if I wasn't clear the first time around.
Joined Forum just to say a huge thank you for your sunroof switch advice
Picked up my 2016 XE R-Sport yesterday and noticed one touch wasn't working on sunroof so you had to hold button in to operate.Jag dealer did not know how to fix the problem but tried your directions and easily fixed it.Thanks so much Cheers from Fozz

Work very good.
Start count second wher sonroof is moving back.
Fixed my switch (OPEN switch does not work). It is unlikely to be dirty contacts as the carbon pads make contact with "leaf" contacts on a circuit board.
The CAUSE is the wear on the black plastic rocker arm in the switch body, that does not then have enough travel fo fully contact the carbon pads to leaf.
SOLUTION is to build up the WHITE PLASTIC component that is embedded into the rocker (outer) component.
ie. remove "switch", gently disassemble the rocker block (the bit your finger presses on) by unhinging each side from the switch body.
On that removed switch block, underneath is a white plastic insert component. Each side is a white knife edge "bar" that depresses the black plastic rocker arm in the main switch body....it's the top of that black plastic component that slightly wears.
So need to build up the white knife edge (make it "jagged" by some fine blade cuts and gentle twisting to raise the edge slightly.
Also note the sunroof calibration procedure is started with the sunroof in a "known" position, being the "FULLY VENT" position, exactly as stated in the Jaguar manual (page 2641 of mine, under 501-17 ROOF OPENING section GENERAL PROCEDURES). ie. depress the rocker forward (until the REAR EDGE of the panel is raised. This is the "fully vented" position and is the known mechanical position to commence calibration.
1. Operate the roof opening panel to the fully vent position.
2. Release the roof opening panel control switch, press the roof opening panel control switch again in the same direction and hold for 30 seconds until the glass moves slightly.
3. Release the roof opening control switch, press the roof opening panel control switch again within 0.5 seconds in the same direction until the glass panel stops after a complete opening and closing cycle.
My 2002 model did NOT "move slightly" at Step 2, so after 30 seconds I just released then immediately pressed and held the button again as it ran thru an entire cycle.
