I just noticed a squeeking sound coming from rear of 2004 3.0 when I push down on the trunk hard. Shocks? struts? bushing? 63,000 mls

Probably the small s-shaped lower control arms. They are most common. Otherwise just about anything back there has been found to make noise at some point. The arms are by far the most common.

See my post about the shock and strut replacement. It goes doubley for those small arms, seized bolts spread mounting tabs, broken welded nuts, torch, torch, torch!! A pain in the a*s when they are rusted and seized. A 10 minute job on each side when they come apart.

Normally it would be safe to drive as when they are squeaking it is because they are tight not loose. The outside bushing does like to go bad and cause the car to wander a lot but I have never seen one break and I have installed at least 400 of these arms.

Just throwing it out here. I have the same problem w/ my 2002 X-type 2.5. It seems to be related to the emergency brake though.

My E-Brake is loose and when I pull up on the lever it will stick. So in other words when I disengage the e-brake from inside the car it isnt realeasing the brakes. When this happens my car squeaks like nothing you've ever heard.

If I play around with the lever a bit and hit the brakes hard a few times it will release and the squeaking goes away.

Does this make any sense?

rhriczko, if you grease the e-brake cable behind the right rear wheel, your squeak will cease. Lube between the cable and the bushing that the cable sits in. Use lithium grease or something similar.

here is my experience on squeak from rear of X-Types. If the car squeaks from the rear on the slightest bump like a tiny crack in the road or it squeaks when you just wiggle the back of the car it is usually the park brake cables. If the car squeaks or groans on large bumps, when someone heavy gets in the back seat or with a heavy push down on the trunk lid it is usually the short lower control arms. I hear many more swaybar bushing clunks and rattles then squeaks.

My comments...

a. Resurrecting a two year old thread, nice job.

b. Bringing back a two year old thread to add an issue that has nothing to do with the OP's problem.

c. Doing all of this in the wrong forum for your model of Jaguar. You should be in the XK section, not X-Type.

:-)

My comments....

At least the guy made some attempt at finding a related thread

Unless you use advanced search search you can easily end up with results in the wrong forum

I can see a correlation between the two problems

Now how about you offer some constructive advice and if you can't do that then keep you snippy comments to yourself

:-)

After reading through multiple threads, I see that this noise can be attributed to the eBrake, bushings, control arm, etc. I haven't gotten under it yet to spray any lube yet, but wondered if anyone had a suggestion based on the noise in my video?

I don't want to start replacing parts randomly. The car has 75,000 miles on it. I first heard the squeak getting out of the car, but now it squeaks on every bump and when I push on it.

Thanks,
J

I wonder why the upper arms are hitting the body on the rear ? I can see where it is hitting going over bumps. Both sides of the car very rough ride ??

2005 Jaguar x-Type Rear Suspension Squeak - YouTube

So, I have replaced the rear shocks with Bilstein B6 and lubed the rear stabliizer bar bushings, but I still have a slight squeek when pushing down on the driver rear of the car. Am I looking at control arms now?

Thanks for any support!

If it sounds like a squeaky bed spring, check the nylon bushing just ahead of the rear wheels, thru which the e-brake cable is routed (per the posts above). As the rear suspension moves up & down ever so slightly, the e-brake cable slides forward and back on the nylon bushing, causing an annoying squeak. A dab of lithium grease where the e-brake contacts the nylon bushing is all it takes to eliminate the annoying squeak.

If that's not it, then drive the rear tires onto ramps, lie on your back under the car, and with your hands, push up on the rear suspension while listening for the noise. You don't have to bench press 500 pounds - just rock the rear of the car up and down a ~1/4 inch. Hold onto different suspension members while rocking the car up and down. When your hand feels the vibration, you'll know that's the suspension member making the noise.
