Synthetic oil?
Hi,
I was wondering how many people run synthetic in their x-type's? I know the early X-type's say not to run full synthetic. I have a pretty late built x-type (07) and i cannot find anywhere in my manual that says not to use synthetic oil. Has anyone had any problems?
Thanks

I just did my first oil change in my 04 since I got it. I used Castrol synthetic (I think it was called "Edge" or something), 5w30 and used a Mobil1 filter.
Everyone has their opinion, but oil is oil. As long as you change it at the recommended intervals, you should be fine.

I have used full synthetic, semi-synthetic blends, and straight dino oil. Atleast in my car, I have not noticed any difference in the motor or mileage.
Not to scare you, but some people have reported that because the synthetic oil molecules are smaller, they tend to find more holes to leak out of. But, if your engine is tight with no oil leaks, you should be golden.

I used to use Castrol Syntec religiously (got a hell of story about how good it was but that's for another time) but heard from a well-connected BMW specialist that they changed the formula a number of years of ago. I switched to Mobil 1 and use it in the Jags without reservation, every 5,000 with a filter.
