Question TC/Air Scoops???

Hey guys - I was just reading in another post about the TC/Air Scoops...

What are they? Where are they? Does every X-Type have them? Do I really need to remove them in the winter?

Can someone please explain? I have a hard time believing that Jag would make a car where you have to add/remove parts based on seasons...?

Thanks!

its a TC cooling duct. and while they came on the cars. it only takes a good speed bump etc to rip it off and you dont have 1 anymore. I never heard anything about seasonal, thats BS

Is it a good thing to remove? Does it really offer cooling for the TC?

By "seasonal" I meant that someone had mentioned taking it off in the winder to avoid damage to it from snow...

Yeah it beneficial to cool the transfere case. Problem is i dont see xtype with them on hardly ever anymore. They get ripped off easy leaving a piece of the mounts

A memeber on here corrected that. Instead of using plasctic, he built one out of metal and put it on, youd think instead of building a filmsy plastic cooling duct they would drill Just make a fill hole.

I think its about 15 bucks, to build the metal one. the meber offered it for 5 bucks

I take mine off for the winter as I've lost mine to deep snow before. But on it goes when snow melts as I believe it's one of big contributor to TC longevity.

The cooling scoop was late add before the x-type went on sale. It's been suggested that durability tests were failing TC without the duct.

It's $45 sources on the net. I would gladly pay $5 for the home brew part if it's still available.

Cool

In Utah, we get a lot of hot summer days, I would think it helps with the cooling of the TC and therefore helping the oil do its job. Of course in winter we have a lot of deep snow, northern end of the state anyway, I remove it in Oct. and put in back on in Apr.

Does anyone have a picture of these mysterious air scoops? I took a gander under my car and there is nothing to suggest that there ever were scoops.

I don't have a pic of the scoop itself but I did notice mine was missing when I was under the car last weekend. I saw the plastic tab still bolted to the car, but of course the scoop itself is long gone.

The Jaguar part number for the cooling duct is C2S18834.

See the red arrow in the pic below, the bolt that holds the scoop is about two inches the right of the oil drain plug. If you look, you will probably also see that the moutning tab from the scoop is still there.

There is an old thread where user canman made his own out of metal:

Check my posts in this thread here for both pictures of the scoop and also pricing and where to buy one...

Thanks to the nifty pics in this thread and the other one DZTT referenced I was able to locate......my plastic tab! Anyway, I think I might have it replaced at least once and then keep an eye on it to see when it gets ripped off. Does anyone know how much the dealer charges for these? I am planning on a 30K service sometime in January so i think I will have them slap one on for me while it is up on the lift.
