Default TC question from a newbie

Is it accelleration or speed that damages the transfer case? I drive a lot of highways that ave 80-90 mph, and was wondering if this is going to be a problem.

Thanks,
Bill

It's lack of lube and/or contaminated/worn-out lube that's the main problem. Repeated hard acceleration or spinning one-or-more wheels with uneven traction (ie on sand or ice) then hitting hard pavement with the wheel spinning that will also do it in.

Billrata, it is more the large torque generated from hard accelerations. Constant speed is not going to be a big problem with the transfer case. Sure, if you have the car wide open for a long time, that isn't good, but it is more the fast speed changes when accelerating that is your worst enemy.
