I posted a step by step thread on this a while back but cant find it.
If your ABS light is illuminating because you probably have a corroded/damaged ABS speed sensor on one of your wheels.Because the engine control unit is therefore not getting a speed reading from this sensor it will illuminate the engine management light on your dash as well.
This happened to me and the problem is now fixed:-
I pulled out off a T-junction and as I pulled out speeding car caught my eye. I had to accelerate foot to the floor. While accelerating hard my ABS light illuminated on the dashboard. 2 miles later I stopped off, and half an hour later when I started the car the engine management light also came on, so I had 2 lights on the dash all the time. I ended up getting a new outer CV joint (£60) fitted as this has a new ABS speed sensor inside it. This cured my problem.
You can pinpoint which ABS sensor has failed by getting your dealer/independant specialist to plug in their diagnostic machine and retreive the error code.On mine it had the error code C1175 which turns out to be the LHR speed sensor input on the outer CV joint.

I'm assuming you aren't under warranty anymore because I'd assume you would have taken it in!

Bo's a perfectionist I think and his cars, well his cars got the most problems of any X I've heard of.....Not a good combination!....lol
Turn on the news one day and read about how some guy just totally lost it, went on some killing spree that started at the local Jaguar dealers ....lol

One mechanic.. the strong silent type one.. just picks up the parts and heads for the shop... kinda ends the conversation.
He got set up in a big vise.. and a BIIIGG hammer... and he beat the **** out of it till is was on. he hands it back to me and says " no charge"
so not sure how the precision machined CV joint can survive such a beating but it is going back on the car.. ( just need to file off the burrs he made.)
wish me luck hahahahha
And you wonder why the dealers charge such exhorbitant prices? There ya go!
Years of experience n training, numerous skills courses and technical upgrade seminars.......an he knocks the **** outta it with BIGGGG Hammer!!!!![sm=headbang.gif][sm=headbang.gif]

I was just told by the body shop today that my abs sensor broke so it needed to be replaced, hopefully this gets rid of the CEL and ABS light
