thinking X type
Hey guys I'm an old member and have owned an 02 x type in the past..... I currently have a Audi and love it but have been eyeing this 03 x type recently. The seller is the original owner ,he wants 6 k and the car has 85 k on it . I'm looking for some kind of advice here as to what to look for as far as problems, is it even worth it, I remember my 02 and absolutly loved it....! Any help would be appreciated.....
Thanks Guys

Fluids seem to be the main issue or lack there of. Transfer case fluid should be checked, if there is any there likely it's black but check for metalic fragments. See if there is any history of transmission CEL codes. Pre 04 models had more issues than the later models, prop shaft bearings, etc. If the person maintained it likely it's fine.

btc3076, how long did you have your '02? Practically the same car and same issues. BUT, seven years and 85K on most should have been sorted. If TC hasn't had the fluid changed, do it. If the vacuum leaks haven't been corrected, easy fixes. Did it get a new auto box during the "campaign" way back when? After that it's all going to be how it's been maintained. Original owner? Then there shouldn't be any lapses in service documentation. As far as value @ $6K that depends on the market where you are, and what it is. 3.0 vs 2.5, etc. Can't come close to getting even a 2.5 '03 near me for that money but in other markets that may be $1K too much.
Just do it and get back to Jag ownership where you know you'd rather be! Otherwise you wouldn't keep eying it. You know you want it.

Thank You sidewalkman, mohrd for the quick responses...... I'm going to ask how routinely the fluids were maintained just to be sure.... I have a obd scanner and will check for any stored codes. I sold my 02 back in 06 so its been awhile. I wasnt aware of the recall on the auto box. It's a 3.0 and I'm located in Ma so I think price is fair so long as the car has been maintained. Thanks guys for the advice and input , I have my homework cut out for me.
Your right I do keep eyeing it Haha.....Seems like JAG ownership is where I wanna be .

Nice. Just curious, how many miles? My friend has an 06 VDP. On my 07 I change the TC oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid etc every year with my oil change - which is also 1 a year. The dealer charges me around $700 for everything. But I can honestly say my car runs like new and I have had zero. I seriously mean zero mechanical problems.
Other than that once a year visit to the dealer I haven't taken my car in for any other work other than installing accessories and the like...since Aug of 06
As for the navigation. My friend's x has the navi. I think the touch screen is nice, but the navigation itself is pretty slow ( at least for Washington DC) and the routing is pretty limited. But it's at a nice height to use as a touch screen, better than any other car I know of, but that places the screen a little too low for driving and looking at the screen.

Like the color and love the Proteus wheels. Why wouldn't I? If it wasn't for the sport skirts, and the few MY's newer, we'd have twins. Glad you are back to Jaggin'.
