Default throttle position sensor

HI
Many thanks for the advice so far on the jag x 2.0 i'm about to buy. But i just discovered from the owner that his wife threw a fit the other night and put about 30 litres of water in the petrol tank to stop him going out drinking. After a major service with all the filters replaced and the tank flushed, his mechanic reckoned that the throttle position sensor was ruined by the water and that it would run better with a new one. Having a search on google didn't throw up anything. Where would i find this ford part? Any advice appreciated. thanks

MJ

Hi MJ,

Not sure how water in the fuel would possibly damage the TPS as fuel is not introduced anywhere near the TPS.
However, they can wear out and cause oddities in engine performance usually in the low end of their movement (just off idle) where the internal resistance track incurs the most repetitive wear.

Here is a thread I posted some time ago when I embarked on trying to find a suitable replacement for my 2.1 V6 petrol TPS.

Good luck.

thanks Mark. Very useful and very kind. I also thought the same about the water issue so it was good to get your POV on that also.
Best
MJ
