Default Need T17 Torx for Throttle Position sensor

Hello,

I have been getting the code for a throttle position sensor on my 2000 VDP so I purchased one. When I went to change it seems I need a T17 Torx bit. You cannot imagine how hard it is to find. Any ideas where one could find one of these bits?
Thanks, Dave Warner

While the T17 Torx does exist it does seem to be almost as rare as rocking horse manure.

Are you sure a T20 doesn't fit?

As a last resort, apparently the T17 Torx exists in the UK bicycle world.......

Ive got at least a half dozen of them I've aquired over the years. Maybe they were more available years ago?
Or I bought 'em all.

I managed to get the screws out with vice grips so I'm OK at the moment. Thanks for checking guys! If Walmart gets some available I'll buy one....

I know I’m very (fashionably??) late to the party but, the size you needed is a TS20.

Amazon Amazon

This is what fit in my throttle bodies TPS. Better late than never right?

Hello,

The TS 20 takes off the side of the throttle body where the TPS sensor is screwed onto and those are TS20 Torx. The actual TPS screws are smaller and not security type...I suspect they felt that using a T17 would be harder than finding a TS bit! Attached pix shows beat up screws after trying a number of bits and screw drivers

The black screw away from the TPS (as shown on the above picture) is a standard 6-point Torx, just Temper-Proof, The screw holding the TPS should be the 5-point "TS" bit so it cannot be the T17 which has 6 points. Perhaps T17 is the popular Torx bit used to mangle the 5-point socket in the screw?

Hi , does anyone know the part number for the TPS to throttle body TS20 mounting screws?
failing that, any TS20 alternative?
I suspect mine have the heads ruined.
cheers

The only way Jaguar would have that fastener is with the rest of the TB. In the past I have used a needle nose vise grip on the screw head itself. It would be ideal to remove the TB from the engine to get the bottom one out. Over here in the states I would go to an ACE Hardware to quite possibly find at least a suitable replacement bolt in place of the TS20 5 star as they have a wonderful selection of fasteners. I’m not sure where to go in the UK as I’ve not been there.

Yes, and I can't quite figure out what Jaguar was thinking with these fasteners. Was it just to keep
the shade=tree mechanics off-balance? Some more compelling reason?

I'd bet a much more 'common sense' reasoning behind the awkward bolt heads - Engine protection and safety. The throttle body is not a serviceable part, service technicians replaced the complete unit, not the TPS.
It's also the main component in engine management, and this is something not even Jaguar can alter drastically - only updated throttle calibration and ECU maps. Software, not hardware.
With Denso copies readily available these non service items get the torx treatment when they're slightly different star/penta, enough to screw them up and do their security job.

So all we need then is the length and determine what thread it is. I don’t care what head it has, the easier the better! Can’t believe no one has done this swap out before… these screws are worth peanuts!
