ticking sound in engine
I have a jag X-Type 2003, it started making a ticking sound in the engine, and so i checked the oil, and it was very low so i did oil change new filter and oil, my daughter drove it to school next day and called me on her way home cause the noise got real loud. Now if started it sounds like something is caught in the fan or something. I just bought this car and really dont know everything about it. Is this something major? And expensive? Is it something i could possibly take care of myself? Please help!

Welcome to the forums. Wish your first post was something that could easily be resolved. Although you gave a brief description and it is always hard to diagnose something like this exactly, chances are when the car was low on oil and making a sound sand now that sound got much louder, it is never a good sign. More than likely something internal to the engine. Probably best to not drive it and take it to a mechanic immediately.
Did you happen to check the oil level before you bought the car and, if so, was it low or look old? When you changed the oil what did the oil look like that came out? Translucent and viscous or thick black goo? When it started making the louder noise had the oil level dropped or is it still filled? Hoping for you it isn't anything that serious, but I have a bad feeling about this.
Let us know how it turns out.
