Default Ticking sound in engine then power cuts

I recently brought my jag xtype really don't know to much about them looking for some help..this is my first car was happy to be buying it and things were fine until I was working on changing the head lights when I turned the car over and began to hear a ticking or tapping sound from the engine..was driving about 40 mphs trying to get it to a shop when the power cut right off all lights and gauges went expect the blinkers..and I couldn't really move the wheel to get it to the side of the road..i also noticed my battery cover was riding up against the pullies and belts on that side but was still on track and working fine so I ruled that out..it sounds like its coming from the passenger side of the car I don't know if its a top or bottom end tap or knock was hope I don't have to replace the whole engine

Thanks for and insight and feedback

I would assume the service engine light on the dash came on. Get the codes read, Pep Boys will read them for free. Write them down and post them here. Help is on it's way.

Seems like a lot of missing. Look at coils and plugs.
Dumping raw gas into the exhaust could cause other errors.

0116 check coolant level.

1108 look for a bad connection or wires that got warm and grounded.

1646 O2 sensor bank 1 If you are lucky once everything else is fixed this will go away. Raw gas in the exhaust caused problem maybe.

As an afterthought, when was the last time you checked the oil level?

I checked the oil before I purchased the car but after that I didn't..I forgot to mention there was a bit of smoke coming from where the oil goes when I removed the cap and also so antifreeze was leaking but there was no crazy blow back..and the car didn't read over heating..will this process be costly..(getting
Everything fixed listed before o2 sensor)
