Question Top 3 Things To Do?

Im picking up my 02 3.0 X-Type today

Ive been reading alot here, and I notice 8 out of 10 posts here mention the dreaded Transfer Case oil.

I am not a mechanic (not even close) so I have my cars worked on. My local Midas has been great to me over the years.

Here is my question:

What are the top 3 things I should have done to my Jag when I first bring it in to my mechanic? My Jag has 65K miles on it and its an Automatic.

Default Hmmm

Check the plastic nipple for the hose at the top left of the coolant reserve tank - it gets cracked where it is joined to the tank and leaks, causing overheating. That seems to happen to almost everyone (I had it at 35k miles). A new tank is about $150.

Everyone stresses over the "filled for life" transfer case, inventing McGuyver-like gizmos to allow flushing the oil within. That's beyond what i want to do myself, so when i hit 60K (at 52k now) I plan to to ask the mechanic how much they want to do that for me. Supposedly thats a pain to do, so if they want an obscene amount, it may not get done. Lots of people go lots of miles on the sealed for life too, they just dont always talk about it. I drive it reasonably, and i don't beat on it, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Have them check for the the big old grin - I try to wipe it away, but every time I jump in my Jag it reappears. Fortunately there seems to be no fix for that.

lol about the grin, Meatbag.

There's a thread in the x type section where I asked what repairs I should expect? on my x type. Thermo wrote what I should expect and gave me some great information.

Congratulations on your new baby. Enjoy!

Default TC Change

Changing the TC lube is easy, quick, and not messy or time consuming. I sell a kit to do it. Do a search and you'll get a dozen hits from folks who use my kit. And it's very simple ( and very important) to get the right amount in the case every time.

To OP,
My 03 has 94,000 miles now. Here are my top things to do having owned this car for the last 6 years.

1. change all fluids - engine oil, trans oil, rear diff oil and transfer case oil(the kit helps but can be done manually as well) as well as the engine coolant
2. replace all shocks and anti-roll bar bushings
3. keep up the fluid maintenance

If PO had things fixed under warranty, your owneship should only be maintenance. To illustrate, here are things fixed under my warranty period:
1. Instrument cluster
2. rear control arm
3. oil pan leak
4. drive shaft
5. transmission flex coupling

And since the repair I haven't touched above items which is very good as all are big $ items.
