Default transfer case labor prices

just curious what others have paid to have the case replaced, labor only. I know it will vary greatly depending on location and who actually performs the work. I just wanna make sure I pay a fair price...Ive never had major work done before, I always did things myself. Any input is helpfull

thanks

4 hours is more than fair to you and the shop, but be aware, that sometimes you cannot get the intermediate axle shaft apart and out which would meens if you try it yourself in the drive you will have wished you hadnt. otherwise its straightforward

I just had this done on my 04. It was 1 week out of warranty in time, and had 55,500 miles, but they covered the majority of the repair. On my bill labor was listed at 3.8 hours at 125.00/hr. This is the dealer in the Chicago area so your actual labor per hour may vary.

It was making a lot of noise and there was a lot of driveline vibration. The vibration was in direct relation to the speed. I am not sure what was really wrong. Based upon other threads I have seen I plan to change the oil in the transfer case ever 20K miles. There is not much airflow around the case and it does not appear to hold much oil. I assume it overheated and cooked the bearings.
