transfer case labor prices
just curious what others have paid to have the case replaced, labor only. I know it will vary greatly depending on location and who actually performs the work. I just wanna make sure I pay a fair price...Ive never had major work done before, I always did things myself. Any input is helpfull

RE: transfer case labor prices
I pulled mine out myself took about 4 hours to get it out.. back in in 2 Could be a whole lot faster in a southern car without rusty bolts.
Will be tough to get a good deal. can be done fast by dealer techs, but they get paid a fixed rate.. other places will be like me and have ot learn as they go.
where are you located? if in Toronto.. or ontario/quebec.. lets just do it.

Agreement on that.. on my car the half shaft and intermediate shaft were stuck together.. the c-clip was desintegrated by the time I got them apart. Took some fussing around to get it apart. I am glad the same issue did not happen on the intermediate shaft. It would have been a bigger challenge to get that one out.

I just had this done on my 04. It was 1 week out of warranty in time, and had 55,500 miles, but they covered the majority of the repair. On my bill labor was listed at 3.8 hours at 125.00/hr. This is the dealer in the Chicago area so your actual labor per hour may vary.

It was making a lot of noise and there was a lot of driveline vibration. The vibration was in direct relation to the speed. I am not sure what was really wrong. Based upon other threads I have seen I plan to change the oil in the transfer case ever 20K miles. There is not much airflow around the case and it does not appear to hold much oil. I assume it overheated and cooked the bearings.
