I have a 2007 1/2 X type (yes it is titled that way) Sportwagon. Really love the car. The transfer case went bad some years ago, 2015 I think with about 100K on it. I began the replacement at that time. A whole lot of life got in the way and, it never got replace. She is sitting in my shop now begging to be fixed but, I have lost my place!!! I have dropped the exhaust, drive shaft, plenum yadda yadda and, as I recall, there is one bolt that is lousy difficult to get to that stalled the project way back when.
Get under there with a printout of the how-to, and start at the beginning. Eventually, you will get to a step that you haven't already done, and can pick up from there.
Or, maybe a better idea, call independent mechanics to find one who will do the hard part on their lift, then you can put the rest back on.
The wagon is a rare cat -- 1605 shipped to North America -- which makes it worth fixing.

Hey, Sone. I have a 4 post lift in my shop. Since the car is partially dis assembled it will be difficult to get it on it but, I can manage with my winch. Is the "how to" you mentioned available on this site? As I recall, I have it nearly out except for the mysteriously difficult bolt hidden under the engine.
GJXZ51, look up in the stickies and download what is called "JTIS". That is the service manual for your car. It has a step by step on how to do things. That will get you back on track and then it will tell you how to put everything back together with the necessary torques.
I am having a heckuva time downloading the JTIS. Seems that has been the experience of many. Program is installed but useless. Seems no "help" and nothing will open.
Perhaps because I am running of a later version (10)windows
GJS, look further into the stickies. Yes, JTIS is not fond of WIN10. But, members have figured out a way around that and they have posted how to make it work under WIN10. You will need to follow those instructions to get JTIS to work.
I have been through. Several times. There have been some very smart folks that have stuck with it and created what appears to be a seamless process! Then, there's me...
It appears that I have successfully installed the program but, When I open and the home page shows up, I get an incorrect path dialog box.
You guys that do this all the time have all my respect!
I replaced the transfer case on my 2004 Sport Wagon a year ago. It was the most difficult job I have ever tackled on any of my cars in 60 years. (maybe my problem was my age!) If I had to replace it again it would go straight into the transmission shop! There are a couple of bolts that are almost impossible to remove and replace. I used a 1/4 in drive socket with universal joint and got a friend to climb under the wheel arch and guide the socket onto the bolt. The same to replace it. Good luck, I hope you succeed - the car is much too good to part out.

Hi GJS,
I am in the Raleigh area and I can help you get the car on the lift and/or figure out a way to get that mysterious bolt removed. It looks like maybe it is the catalytic converter support bracket which shows a special tool in the manual.
