Transfer case, transmission, or just something simple? please help
I bought my x type and it was very well maintained but shortley after buying me and my wife got on the i interstate and i noticed a slight whine once i got up to 55 mph the car wouldnt accelerate any more so i gave it a little more gad and noticed my rpms were the only thing going up so after getting to the side of the road i went to put it in park and got a grind noise as if the transmission was still spinning when i engaged park i had it flat bedded home and once it was light out i started looking into everything the only thing i could think went wrong is the t case because after the car had been moved back and forth loading and unloading it from the wrecker i was able to get in and drive it and it would drive and shift just fine unless i tried to speed up to fast then its like it would just rev and got the same noise from before when going into park in order to keeo the trans safe i started turning it off in neutral then shifting to park now ive had people say its the t case and others say trans and another guy said his was just a simple fix inside the shifter itself im not sure but i have a parts x type with a burnt motor and a bad trans but im just trying to make sure im not gonna waist my time and hopes and in the end have the same problem i cant find any decent videos or good how toos and my k frame bolts are holding me up if anyone has good knowledge on this please share i need to get my car running and im getting desperate to get it done

The transfer box is quite a simple device, whether or not it has the pre 2004MY viscous coupling. No electronics. It's not capable of allowing you to get up to a speed and then limiting further increase. When it fails, you'll know all about it at any speed, forwards or backwards. As others have advised it's either the autobox itself, the J Gate or the selector cables out of adjustment
