Default Transmission drain plug washer??

I'm planning on a transmission fluid drain/fill process this weekend where I plan to drain what's in the pan, fill with 3.5 quarts run engine 14-15 seconds, drain and fill again, and repeat until I see mostly clear red fluid. I found Castrol Import ATF on sale at Advance Auto for $4 a quart so grabbed 12 quarts for at least three drains. I am confused on something though. Is there a replacement washer that is on the drain plug that I need to obtain and change out? I see mention of that in some posts but not all sources. I do see the level check plug calls for the washer on that plug to be replaced, but I am asking if there is a washer required for the main drain plug? I need to get busy and locate a washer or three if so. Thanks

A look at the parts books don't show a separate O-ring for the plug. Certain VIN models come with one when buying an oil pan gasket set. You should be able to match it at the local parts house. Or check with the dealer with your VIN and see if one is installed or available.

14 to 15 seconds isn't going to do a whole lot, except waste trans fluid. Run her through the gears, while all 4 wheels are off the ground. Do this in cycles of at least 10 minutes. It took me awhile, before I started to get cleanish fluid out, and probably 15 liters of trans fluid.....Best of luck.....Mike

I followed the procedure I described above that was inspired by Micheal in Toronto post on the Stckiy about trans fill, and just finished. It worked great. My first drain was just 3 quarts had brownish very thin stinky fluid. I put in three quarts Castrol Multi Import ATF , refit the rubber fill plug and ran engine for 15 seconds. Next drain was almost as dirty as first, not much difference in color. Put in three more quarts ran engine 15 seconds. That third drain looked much better and had very much a red tint to it. I refit the drain plug which by the way had a thin aluminum washer on the drain bolt and torqued to 33 pound/ft like my Haynes manual said. Also my drain plug head was 15/16 in size and my socket fit it perfectly. I refilled the final time with approx 3 1/2 quarts of Castrol Multi Import and replaced the rubber fill plug. I was able to loosen the battery box retaining arms and then shifted and tilted it forward just enough to get my hand in the space to pull out rubber fill plug without disconnecting terminals. When I filled with fluid I used a turkey baster without bulb from Dollar Tree and fit it into the fill hole. Then my usual transmission funnel would fit into the open end of that. Worked great. I found that Advance Auto has Castrol ATF on sale all March long (2016) for only $4 a quart so this saved me a good bit on buying the 10 quarts I put in over course of this drain and fill. Jaguar is shifting great and smooth
