Transmission fault...
Hey I've had my x type for little over a month and the transmission fault thing came up.
Sometimes its just the transmission light the goes on, sometimes its the orange light and the words transmission fault, and sometimes its both. When my car goes on distant trips the transmission lights turn off for the rest of the day but if i dont go on long trips the transmission light(s) stay on.
I have A 03 xtype with 90,000 miles on it.
The car drives fine it doesnt feel like the transmission is bad or anything.

When you get a chance, on the drivers side beside your left foot on the wall is the Transmission Control Module.
Chances are it's fine just over time it got some moisture in it so iff you pull it off open it up, clean the contacts put it back in it'll go away for good.

I looked but wasn't sure what it looks like.
Is the Transmission Control Module behind the fuse box? i found this little box thats gray and has i cable connected to it, is it that?

Disconnect the battery first. Then have a look at the connections and see if they look a bit corroded. If so take the thing out and open it up to clean off all the corrosion. Then I would do what I didn't but now have to.
Get a small baggie, poke a small hole in the top to run the wires through and then use some silicone and duct tape to seal it to the wires so the baggy acts like an umbrella to keep the moisture out. Guy at the dealership told me about that trick. My windshiels has a leak someplace..oddly enough it has developed a crack in it so insurance is replacing it so leak will be fixed but if you have a replacement windshield in yours that's likely the issue. You can tell if there is a big gap between the windshield and the plastic cowl.
That TCM connector can be troublesome. Mine kept coming loose and finally I just got under there and zip tied everything snug after I cleaned everything up. I had similar symptoms after a new trans was put in. Check that sucker and check it good.

Don't want to scare u but we had that come up and the tranny soon after started slipping..next day it was being rebuilt to the tune of over $4500....
I would seriously recomend taking it to a specialist and getting it inspected, the earlier it is checked the less parts get damaged and the lower the price of a rebuild.

k i will check that sucker really really really good. I hope its just that because if not I would need to dig deep in my parents pockets for that 4,500 lol.
Im going to continue looking for the TCM today after i get out of work.
