"Transmission Fault"
my 2002 Jaguar X Type (112,000 miles). When I accelorate, sometimes the RPMs go up high but the car does not respond in volocity. A "Transmission Fault" messege apperas on the dash. Most of the time when I turn the car off and start again it will not do this. It's a hit or miss issue and would like to get this resolved. Anyone with any iformation would be really helpfull.

Well we took the car to the Jaguar Dealer today. The mechanic at the dealership recognized the car and recalled that a Full Diognostic had been done to the entire car a month ago. He didn't charge us for anything and gave us the complete report free. The report was clean except for one thing. The report stated "Replace transmission code P0735 incorrect ratio this means that there is a mechanical fault w/5th gear. The wanted to do a complete replacement ($7700). He suggested that we take it to All Transmission World (that they were capable and a lot cheaper). The car is currently there and we are paying $400 to open the transmission and do a full check. I'll get the car back tomorrow and they will tell me what they found. I would love to fix it and keep the car. However if the problem is too sevear I'm going to sell it. I'll post again tomorrow.

Ok, just wondering why it should cost that much. I had the transmission on a Ford Taurus overhauled a couple of years ago and paid < $2K for it.
It was a front wheel driver FoMoCo transmission so what's the difference between it and an X-Type transmission? Ok, sure, the transfer case needs to be removed and that would up the labor a bit, but beyond that, what's the difference? Drop tranny, split case, remove worn parts, replace, reassemble, install...
Is it that it's really a Nissan tranny (i.e., JATCO JF506E) and they're just tougher to overhaul?

I have no idea, I was hoping it wouldn't be so much, but it's what I had to pay. They said that they were going to completely use all new parts to rebuild the transmission because a lot of parts had been recalled and should be upgraded. The Jaguar dealership in Orlando wanted to charge me almost $9K. A question: when they do a full transmission rebuild, should that also include the gear box as well?

Help!
I recently went to a car wash with my 2004 x type. After the guys did the interior, the car wouldn't move out of park and a transmission fault was displayed. The transmission always shifts nicely and never gave me a problem! After talking to a few people, I was told that moisture (from spraying interior) could cause the TCM or the shift censor to act up. They told me to blow air on them to help dry them up...after 20-min. My car was fine! Message went away! That was a month ago...Yesterday I got a new stereo system installed and when my car was finished, transmission fault again! There is a lot of moisture in the air and they had all the doors open with the dash apart but now it won't start! After researching this issue, I see that it's common for the x type to be sensitive to moisture. Help!
