Default Transmission Fault

2004 X-Type 3.0 AWD - 25,000 miles
OK. My car is running fine. No weird sounds. Nothing out of the ordinary. My engine light comes on 2 days ago and won't go off. I went to Autozone to see what the light is on for. They plug in and it says "Transmission Fault".

Could this be a simple error? I feel like if the transmission was messing up I would feel it at some point of acceleration.

What causes the code Transmission Fault to appear? Any insight would be greatly helpful as a new transmission is just not in the cards.

Unfortunately it's giving you an early sign. Get ready to open up your wallet for some costly repair.

Try changing the tranny fluid first.

Ey Carumba. That's what I was afraid of. I'll drop it up to get the fluid changed today. Damnit.
