I'm new to these.posts therefore please be patient with me.
I recently just purchased a 2004 X-Type 3.0 AWD from a friend. The car sat for 3 years without moving but occasionally started to preserve the battery. The X-Type's reason for sitting is a slippage in the tranny which seems to be common for those cars. It has 150,000 miles and is in perfect shape inside and out. After purchasing I went to turn her over and it wanted to crank but due to low battey.voltage my.jump starter would not allow it to start. I took the battery out and charged it for 2 days on a slow trickle charge at 2 amps. I thought it would be enough to start the car. Before installing the charged battery I lifted up the battery box to discover the inlet and outlet stubs on the topside of the motor. With no way to check it warm I went ahead and put a half a.bottle of LUCAS brand transmission slip fix etc. I replaced the box and re-Installed the battery and now she won't do anything. I can hear a hum from the fue pump and that's it. All dash lights work and a message appeared in the odometer Info center saying transmission fault. I found the Inertia switch and pressed it (How do you know I engaged-disengaged it) but nothing. I released some transmission fluid from the 15/16ths drain plug on the tranny but nothing changed..
What have I done?

Reason: Remove POLL
It's doing exactly what mine did when I let the battery die in the car. A full charge and it started right up and the lights went out. The transmission warning is due to the low battery charge. Either make SURE that the battery is actually fully charged or get a new one. It should then start. Or at least turn over...
Or.... test the battery on this type of diagnostic tool (luckily the Walmart Superstore here has one = VERY expensive, like $15,000)., not the crap ones auto parts stores use. After 3 years the battery is most likely toast.
if you read through the forum you will find many usefull posts that should help you diagnose the issue,
1st things 1st, check the battery , try jump starting see if it cranks, check battery cables and ground cables.
2nd, is your cigarette lighter adapter working ? if not check fuses, replace if needed, now is your climate control unit working ?
i do suggest doing a search using strings that will return the best results,
