Won't crank after sitting for 3 weeks
First of all, greetings. Then, my car has been sitting for a few weeks with a 2-amp battery tender on automatic. Shows fully charged, but won't crank. All other systems seem perfectly functional but I just get a loud click from the starter. Car is a 2006 with 25,500 miles.
Battery tender has a 75-amp car-start function and that seems to have no effect. Display reads "DSC System Fault" when trying to crank.
Anyway I'm figuring the battery is toast, but this doesn't explain why the car won't crank when the car-start function is used--I've never had a car fail to crank using that function. I've checked and re-checked all cables. Any ideas?
I read here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...t-fixed-52542/
that the DSC module might be faulty... should that go on the front burner or the back? TIA

Take your battery to a nearby Autozone and have it load tested. If okay, double check all connections, esp. grounds - there's one that goes from the body to the trans bell housing that corrodes - if no luck, could be a bad starter. Good luck.
Car start functions on chargers may not provide clean enough power for the electronics in these cars if the battery is bad.
And welcome to the forum!...looks like we are neighbors.

Thanks, I ordered one from Advance Auto...waiting on pickup notification... meanwhile presuming it doesn't have venting facility has anyone ever jerry-rigged one? Seems I could drill a hole the right size in the cap and plug in the fitting & tube from the old battery, which appears to be OEM ... It's a Varta with Jaguar logo, and a couple of the codes on it start with "95" which might indicate year. Not bad if it's almost 9 years old...
Thanks guys. The new battery solved everything. And yes it has a port for the vent tube, and the guy was even familiar with the application. So he plugged the opposite end port. She's purring again, now if we can just get this sand and salt off the roads!!

Be careful with your charger. The battery was old enough to die, but check the voltage on the charger once the battery is fully topped up. If you're much over 12.6, then your charger is going to cook and kill the new battery. A "smart" charger will go into float mode once the battery is topped up.
Thanks, my charger goes into standby mode once the battery is charged. Meanwhile does anyone know what these two wires might be? They are loose (unconnected) and in the vicinity of the positive cable. Sorry about the camera-phone pic quality.
They are for a device used during shipping of the car from the UK...they have no use once the car is delivered.
LOL oh wow! At least the NSA wasn't involved. I hope.
