Default transmission problem code P0706

ok i bought this jaguar has about 130k miles on it a few months in to having it when the car warms up it wont go in to drive or 4 but when the car is cold it works fine shifts fine if u put it up to 3 it goes in to limp mode but then works in all gears with reduced power but if u shift it fast enough from 3 back to drive it wont go in to limp mode and works fine thought it was the rotary switch replaced it did nothing still gives me the same code dont have a hole lot of money so not trying to just throw parts at it does any one have a idea what is wrong

the code means transmission range sensor /circuit

It is probably easy to replace.

If you've replaced rotary switch already it may be the shift cable out of adjustment. Could also be switches in the J-gate. I would look at the cable first.
