Question Trip computer/Cruise question

Hi
Just joined having bought a X Type Estate S 2.0D 2005.
I was disappointed to find it does not have the 3 button switches below the light switch to interogate the mpg etc.
The question is if I buy the switch block is the wiring there so I can get at the information? Likewise if I buy an upgrade steering whell with the switches for cruise is the wiring& system in place to activate it?
I had a Land Rover TD5 and was able to introduce cruise as usually all the wiring is installed regardless of model and only the switch gear is left blank lower down the spec.

MM05 is running well anything I need to watchful of its done 95k has had the clutch problem sorted :-)?????

Thanks
John

Loyalduke, the trip computer, all the electronics is there for you to use. So, a new headlight switch is all you need. Just a warning though, you have about 8 different headlight switches to choose from (with/without trip function, US spec headlights, canada spec headlights, scandinavian spec headlights, etc). so, it isn't a simple this or that headlight switch. So, make sure you know what you are getting.
As for the cruise aspect, it should all be there. With the fly by wire setup, adding cruise should be there. But, the best advice that I can tell you is to pop the air bag off of the steering wheel and then do a little bit of looking to see if you have a plug that is pretty full or if the plug to the switches only has a few wires. From there I can tell you if you can or can not.

Loyalduke, if you are going to take the airbag off make sure you disconnect the battery or you could do yourself some damage

Also depends on which instrument cluster you have, notice the difference here with the LCD display in the speedo;

With Message Center

Without Message Center

Forum member Spielnicht recently retrofitted the trip computer, and had to change his instrument panel to the version with the Message Center.

Note that this also needs to be done with the WDS/IDS/SSD diagnostic system, since the new instruments have to be coded into the car for security purposes. If you just try to swap over the instrument panel, the car is disabled!

You can't add the cruise control to a Diesel X-Type, because of the throttle-by-wire setup. It's possible with the AWD V6's, but sadly not with the oil-burners.

Thanks everyone
Seeing as the speedo/message screen are wrong I will leave as is.
