Unhappy Trouble Codes in Instrument Panel Msg Ctr.

I remember last year I read somewhere how to get the message center in your instrument panel to display the trouble codes. The older I get the shorter my memory is, can somebody please refresh my memory on how I this is done one more time? Thanks

Bear in mind you've no idea how old they are, could be from any time, and they're not cleared if the fault clears.

Jaguila, to get into the diagnostic mode, press and hold the TRIP button on the end of the turn signal stalk and then start the car. Keep the button depressed until you see the instrument cluster say "TEST" or "Engineering Test". Then you can release the button. From there, you can press the TRIP button until you see the instrument cluster say "DTC XXXX" where the XXXX is either a letter or number followed by 3 more numbers. The first letter/number refers to what type of code and its first digit. The last 3 numbers are the last 3 numbers of the code. If you need me to go into more detail about how to deconstruct the error code, let me know.

Hello Thermo. Someone linked me to your interesting post. Can these stored codes be cleared somehow?

Yes, OE tool such as Mongoose / IDS should do it.

Failing that the thing to do is note all codes in cluster then at a later date look and see if any new ones. Ignore all old ones.

Jens, through the instrument cluster, the only way to clear the codes is to have the high dollar dealership tool. So, like was mentioned, either write down all the codes you have today and then reference that later or you will have ot figure out what applies and what doesn't. Please note that codes like E511 and some others, every Jag has these codes and while they are indications of a problem, they are caused when the battery is getting weak and it is one of the codes that tells you that.
