Exclamation Turbo - oil leaking all over engine

Hi

I am driving from Portugal to Roscoff France to take a ferry to Plymouth. The heard a noise like a pipe blowing off and the turbo stopped working.
I carried on driving for 500km as I was trying to make the ferry and fix the car in the UK.

I thin noticed black oil all over the passenger wheel arch.
I have RAC breakdown insurance.

The French mechanic had a quick look and said its the Turbo. If the Turbo was broken, I would expect black smoke to be pouring out the exhaust, there is no smoke.

I suspect a hose has come off, can you confirm this is the probable cause or is it likely to be the turbo?

Thanks for you advice

Hello Simon.

I would guess that the Jubilee type clip that holds the boost hose onto the Intercooler has rusted through and the boost hose has blown off.

It happened to me when I had my X Type.

Thanks for this
This is my second X-Type and the boost hose into the intercooler blew off my old one too. Surely, if it was the Turbo, I would have had black smoke coming out the exhaust?
