Default Two beeps on locking.

I get two toots of the horn when I lock my 2005 X-Type. I can lock it with the key but the car refuses to lock with the key fob. No doubt a door or something else (?) is open. The doors are all shut and windows up. There is no warning on the display in the speedometer. How can I get a start on where to look?

Thanks,
Pete.

Thanks for your suggestion but it didn't work.

I tested each door and the trunk by leaving it open to confirm that the "door open"
message appeared. That all worked OK but I still get the two toots.

Jagger
Check the little door over the ignition (can get stuck open)...
your car might think the keys are still in the ignition

I did check the little door for the ignition key. It seems OK.

I did solve the problem! It was the hood switch. I could
press it by hand and the key fob worked properly. There
is apparently no message center for hood open.

I looked closely at the switch and it looked OK and everything
else around it looked OK. The switch does not appear to be
adjustable. The hood fit properly and does not appear to
be adjustable. My solution was to put a little self adhesive
pad on the hood where the switch should hit. I hope
the adhesive holds up through the summer and winter.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions,
Pete.

Try closing the hood firmly. One day I could not get the car to lock and I read in the owners manual if you do not close the doors firmly the auto lock will not work properly. I missed the part about the hood/bonnet. Our of desperation I tried closing the hood/bonnet firmly and the doors locked with the fob. Did you know that if you lock your doors with the key and leave a window the window will close if you keep the key in the lock position, sun roof also. But it won't roll down the windows if you unlock the doors.

What the two beeps are about I have no idea.

The two beeps is the audible warning that all is not well with the doors/bonnet/boot being closed properly...
most people walk away as they lock the car so this lets you know to go back and close the door, etc properly

Default Hood switch

I have a question about the hood switch. My doors all lock with the FOB,every thing acts normal. When I have the hood open and put the key in the ignition all is normal, When or how does the switch come into play,I thought it was so the alarm would trigger if the hood was open.or maybe I just answered my own question, you can't open the hood or leave it open while the doors are locked.

Try putting a stick on spacer on the electrical switches at the doors, trunk and hood and see if the problem goes away (my xk does the same thing on occasion with the trunk sensor). If the problem goes away, then remove them once at a time and see when the problem returns. That is the one that is giving you problems and probably just needs a little adjustment.

Except that the 'door open' microswitches are in the latch assembly inside the doors on the X. They are not accessible from the outside.
