upgrade stereo to sat nav
Hi,
I have a 2002 2.5 V6 x type, it has the standard radio/tape and I would like to upgrade to the touch screen and sat nav, I have seen one on eBay from a 2005 model, does anyone know if this would fit?
Thanks you
Bobby

Bobby,
yes the 2005 sat nav will fit. but you need more than the screen
you will need.
screen
DVD unit in trunk and map DVD
wiring loom from boot to screen
HVAC module.
CD or Tape for nav model as the non nav is connected to the HVAC unit.
Plenty of info on here on how to do it.

Another option to consider is just adding an aftermarket double din unit. You will get better maps, bluetooth with all bells and whistles.
Upgrading to the Jag SatNav can be done, but if you add all the parts the $$$ and labor may not be worth it.

Thanks for the replies folks. I managed to get a complete setup on ebay for £300, all parts included.
I know the maps will be a little out of date, however, I really like the look of the satnav module in the Jags, As much as I would like the tech in an aftermarket unit I'm not sure I would be overly happy with the result.
out of interest, is there an aux in for the screen? I was thinking about adding an in car computer in the boot and connecting it on to the head unit.
Thanks
Bobby

You will need a ACM unit for the aux in as the standard head unit does not have one!!
I have fitted an Android computer unit into the OEM touchscreen, not cheap though!! here is a video of it working -

If you are asking about video aux in, no there isn't. People use a video switch that connects between the nav unit and the screen and switches between the nav/computer/rear view camera. The video is analog R,G,B+sync, much like VGA monitor. Search the forum, there are many threads describing various setups.
If you are asking about audio aux in, there isn't one either. There is a thread in the AV section about a guy who managed to solder one in the CD player. The easiest thing is an FM modulator. There is also the Jag ACM, but that is $$$.

Is there a working cassette slot in your car's audio system? I have an ancient cassette-looking device with a 3.5 stereo mini plug on it that I used to play CDs from a diskman in my 83 XJS and it works just fine in my X-type. The sound quality is better than through FM modulation. You should be able to find such a device easily for small change at a flea market or thrift store.

Eaun I have done exactly the same mod on my X Type. Have to say my Odroid is not as quick with its access as yours.
I also added Camera's to front & rear. The internet access - I presume you you have Data access enabled whilst on the move ?
Otherwise internet access is limited. Congratulations on a nice job sir.
