Dusty, I am pretty sure the S-Type used a different version of the 3 liter engine and therefore, the likelihood of the valve covers working is small. I would first start with taking some pictures and comparing what you want to what you have and then that may immediately rule out things. If they look the same, then depending on how you are, roll the dice and go for it. Just let us know because if it works, others may be interested in it.
Dusty: Good question. I never noticed that...
I have a 2004 2.5L X-Type and a 2004 3.0L S-Type parked right next to each other. I just had a look, thinking that I would very quickly discover differences of the valve covers...
I even removed the plastic cover from the S-Type, which covers the left cam cover, so that I can see it. BUT...: I saw no differences.
I think the 3.0L in S-Type and X-Type engines are the same, but your question was about the 2.5L X-Type (and note aside: There is also a 2.5L S-Type).
But all indications are that all 4 engines (2.5L S / 2.5L X / 3.0L X / 3.0L S) use the same cam-cover, which I confirmed by googling "cam cover 2.5L Jaguar X-Type", where I found the following listing:
This confirms, that they seem to be all the same.... - which is good for me to know, as I have a lot of brand new cam covers for the S-Types - and now I know, for the 2.5L X-Types as well.... (Btw.: For above listing they list shipping costs of AUD$127 to Australia. All the cost given is for one side - but they offer both sides...)
Remark on your " I see they make aluminum ones for the 02-08 s type 3.0":
Are you sure? Aluminum? Normally the S-Type cam covers are a magnesium composite. Magnesium is a sacrificial element in the electro-corrosion process, where also steel and aluminum are involved (i.e. the other parts of the engine), and over time the magnesium cover will dissolve, starting at the points, where they are bolted on - which is why I have a whole stack of new cam-covers for the S-Type...
Thermo, thank you for the input and advice. The only difference I can see is the location of the coil bolt hole is up on the s type 3.0 and the x type 2.5 is down. I believe it is just a matter of turning the coil but I'm going to check if they both take the same coils. They may narrow it down more.
I appreciate the help and will keep everyone updated.

Thank you for replying to my question. I have seen similar pictures online for the valve covers with gaskets and bolts here in the states. They are roughly 150$ for the set for s type 3.0.
They are calling them aluminum but could be other metals.
I have only found one difference so far and that being the coil bolt is in a different position.
I also noticed the s type calls them left and right verses front and back that the x type is traversed.
I'll keep checking some other things to maybe narrow it down more
Thank you and I'll keep everyone updated.
left / right / front / back:
The S-Type has the engine in the normal standard position, the X-Type has the engine turned 90° due to space limitations, which makes for very awkward access to the transmission.
"Front" cam cover on the X-Type is therefore left (that is the one, where you pour in the engine oil), and "back" is right.
