Waist Seals - Any Cheap Options for a Wagon?
I am at the point where my exterior window waist seals have gone bad with bubbling rust to somewhere close to the point where I can't ignore it anyt longer!! I know this is a routine problem we face, I know it is a relatively straightforward DIY task and I know the cost of the replacement parts is not attractive. I've not seen any shortcuts pricewise in this or any other forum, however, just in case anyone has any insights on this issue..............
The best deal I can find on the internet for a full set (for a wagon) is GBP 225 - so around $400 (the saloon set is GBP 95 - not far I say!!!!!):
GENUINE JAGUAR X-TYPE ESTATE FULL WAIST SEAL SET ( DOOR MOULDINGS ) | eBay
1) Anyone know of a cheaper deal (for a wagon) elsewhere? (preferably somewhere that ships to Canada, unlike Hatfields)
2) Anyone know of a non-OEM part/method that is cheaper and works and looks good?
Any thoughts anyone has, as always, much appreciated!

So, I finallly bit the bullet and shelled out the money to Hatfields Jaguar who couldn't ship to Canada so paid an extra $60 postage to relay the package through my brothers uk adress, Making for a grand total of somewhere around $500 for the 6 window seals. Ouch.
And ouch again!!
The photo shows the state of the old drivers window seal - and the cause of the problems (the new one shows the internal metal frame that is exposed at the end.)

This looks the same as the issue on XK8/XKR waist seals. The XK8/XKR problem is due to inadequate priming by the manufacturer and I expect Jaguar use the same supplier for both models.
The XK8 cost was a terrifying £324 or $514 each from Jaguar in January 2012 so I did a refurb on mine. It's surprising how extensive damage can be repaired. This thread may be of interest to anyone considering refurbishment instead of replacement:

Next time I see an XK I will take a look at the seals. From the description Graham, it sounds as though the entire xk seal is fabricated in metal? Is that right? Whereas the the x type design has a thin metal skeleton encased in a sort of rubberized plastic material. The metal frame in the affected bubbled areas of my seals fell out as dust when i removed them, and i'm guessing the deformation to what was left would need some very clever footwork to get back into as new condition. I have the old ones - might try some sanding and painting and see what happens but I am a bit doubtful that would work on the material in question.
Either way, the new ones look great! ( ........and they had better at that bl@@dy price!)
