If it's certified select, doesn't it come with a 6yr/100,000 warranty? Buy it and love it!
But to answer your question, I'm a newbie with the X-type too, but I haven't heard anything too horrible for repairs/problems.

No real issues with mine.Only goes to the dealer once a year for the service.Have owned over dozens off cars over the last 20 years and this is the one I have owned longer than any other (2 years nearly instead of less than 1 year) and STILL NO PLANS TO SELL

Owned my 02' sport 3.0 since September and have loved it every second. I looked at them since last spring and finally was able to get one. I've had a few issues with mine but they were all covered by a 3month/3,000 mile warranty from the dealer I bought the car from that covered all of the problems the car had. I had the driveshaft replaced, some electronics to the headlights, malfuntioned door locking device. Other than those problems it could happen to any car. Being the car is certified select edition its basically a brand new car. Actually it comes with a better warranty than all of the cars you buy here in america. You are warranted to 100,000 miles and 6 years from when the car was titled so you'll have until some time in 2009 to be covered by the warranty. Once you hit 100k miles every car breaks down in one way or another. You want the car to last treat it that way! Car is excellent in winter weather the abs system to me could have been better but is better than no abs. If I were you I'd make sure the car has traction control. Its a little button in front of the cup holder. If your not worried about snow or ice traction control is not needed. Here in Michigan though I'm glad I got one with it because I just figured that it being awd it would be able to drive through anything without loseing control and what not but once I shut my tc off I realized what the car would have reacted like. If I never had tc I probably wouldn't miss is but I put it to the limits to see what the car would do and how it would react. The car still (to me) is rear wheel drive because you turn the tc off it will do donuts and you could lose control! Overall though this car is awesome! Before you just dive into the particular car make sure it has everything you want. There are so many other things that you find out after the car, make sure you want the 3.0 liter engine vs. the 2.5 manual vs. auto., make sure you want that color of leather, you want sunroof, you want the lesser models and not the sport model, different rims, different colored wood in the car. Just keep in mind that there are soooo many of them out there and with the low resale value that the car has it is definitely in the hand of the buyer and not the seller. Just because the car has low mileage and what not you can find one cheaper. But if you absolutely love that car get it because you wont be disappointed. With that warranty the only thing you need to worry about is brake pads, tires and belts! Good luck and sorry I blabbered on and on and on!

I can't believe you guys didn't tell him the part about where the thingy catches on fire and where the re-call was on the tire falling off at 60 mph and how the engine tends to freeze over with no oil and...ah heck...you get the idea......

If it was me.....i would drink more beer and download **** about jags who drive pretty young girls around town and how they love to suck fuel out of the tanks and.....oh heck...i think i'm gonna stop here because i can't see the tiny liitle text on the thingy that lights up on the screen and all...hic.......burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp. Oh that was a good one, i give it a 7.
